EARLY CHILDHOOD COMMITTEE -
CHILDCARE HEALTH CONSULTATION WORKGROUP
Tips for Pediatricians
Most preschool-aged children receive some care in a childcare setting. This initiative will provide childcare providers, preschools, and health care providers with access to a nurse health consultant in an effort to optimize the care of children in childcare, especially those children with special health care needs.
Childcare Nurse Consultants (registered nurses) are experts in child health, child care, and child safety. Childcare providers may call or send a message to a child care nurse consultant with questions about policies, health programs, health of personnel, and specific child health or safety issues. Health care providers may contact nurse consultants in an effort to coordinate care for children with chronic disease or those lacking preventive services. Currently only Pima County has a public health nurse serving in this capacity.
